Job Description

At Anchorage Digital, we are building the world’s most advanced digital asset platform for institutions to participate in crypto.

Anchorage Digital is a crypto platform that enables institutions to participate in digital assets through custody, staking, trading, governance, settlement, and the industry's leading security infrastructure. Home to Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital also serves institutions through Anchorage Digital Singapore, Porto by Anchorage Digital, and other offerings.

The company is funded by leading institutions including Andreessen Horowitz, GIC, Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Visa, with its Series D valuation over $3 billion. Founded in 2017 in San Francisco, California, Anchorage Digital has offices in New York, New York; Porto, Portugal; Singapore; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Learn more at anchorage.com, on X @Anchorage, and on LinkedIn.

With the evolving landscape of digital threats and an increasing volume of sophisticated attacks by malicious actors, we have a security policy mandating all new hires complete an in-person onboarding process - no exceptions . Security is our foundation and we prioritize physical identity verification and secure IT setup. While our security and IT logistics require physical presence to protect our infrastructure from sophisticated global threats, this move is equally about our Village culture. We believe that a laptop can be shipped, but our culture cannot.

  • The team’s mission is to empower institutions to settle digital assets safely and at scale, improving digital asset liquidity while reducing their counterparty risk. This is a nascent business line at Anchorage Digital with huge potential

  • You will work with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager and the rest of the engineering team to plan, build, release and maintain high quality software for the Atlas business. You will be the primary driver of the system architecture, technical direction and each team member’s technical skill development

  • At Anchorage Digital, we believe the product is never "done," we can always do better! When you join Anchorage, we expect you to drive our products forward by developing novel solutions for our institutional clients. As a team, we are constantly striving to innovate in order to build the future of cryptocurrency and the digital asset ecosystem.

  • We think about growth and career development differently at Anchorage Digital. We define performance as acquiring, possessing, and practicing a relevant set of skills and competencies - and the ability to apply them effectively and consistently . We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Anchorage Digital “Villagers” better measure impact and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the Software Engineering role. You will be coached, mentored and guided to grow your capabilities in 4 major areas:

  • Technical skills

  • Complexity and impact of work

  • Organizational knowledge

  • Communication and influence

Technical Skills:
  • Build secure, resilient infrastructure from the ground up!
  • Review code across the entire stack and engineering organization while actively participating in product development.
  • Foster an efficient deterministic testing culture, with an emphasis on minimizing tech debt.
  • Find simple solutions to complex software design problems
  • Efficiently implement high quality code (functional, performant, clear, concise and well tested)
  • Production support. Participate in the on-call rotation and troubleshoot, mitigate and learn from production incidents to reduce their incidence.
  • Drive down technical complexity, refactor existing systems safely. Leave the codebase better than you found it.
Complexity and Impact of Work:
  • Break down large projects into smaller tasks, an accurately estimate the size of multi-person projects
  • Ship code that will impact the global economy.
  • Find the right balance between progress (i.e. shipping quickly) and perfection (i.e. measuring twice).
Organizational Knowledge:
  • Work across multiple product lines such as Anchorage Digital Trading, Custody and our suite of API integrations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with everyone.
  • Help scale the team.
Communication and Influence:
  • Influence architecture/product roadmap - have a seat at the table.
  • Mentor and guide multiple engineers on the team within their area of specialization or domain, and help others understand the strategic goals of Anchorage Digital and how their work relates to these.
You may be a fit for this role if you have:
  • You have 8+ years of professional experience building backend services
  • You have designed, delivered and maintained customer facing APIs
  • You have experience designing, building and deploying cloud native micro-services
  • You are passionate about building automated tests alongside your features
  • You enjoy building services from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time.
  • You have a genuine interest and pride in code quality and infrastructure.
  • You have experience performing on-call support for production systems
  • You prioritize end-user experience and business value over “cool tech.”
  • You developed “computer science fundamentals”, i.e. algorithms, data structures and operating systems (Formal CS degree NOT required).
Although not a requirement, bonus points if:
  • Professional experience with C++ or Go.
  • Professional experience with Kubernetes
  • Professional experience with front end development, especially Typescript/React.
  • You have experience with system security (e.g. authentication, authorization, identity, API keys)
  • You have a background in the finance or cryptocurrency industries.
