Youth Peer Mentor

About the Role

This role delivers youth-focused, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed recovery services to ACS-involved youth and families. The Youth Peer Mentor builds rapport, assesses readiness for change, and supports individuals in accessing recovery and community-based resources.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Care & Recovery Support (70%)

• Provide orientation to youth on program services and support access to substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery resources
• Build motivation and engagement around recovery, prevention, and youth development
• Assess stage of change and collaborate with youth to identify goals and recovery pathways
• Deliver tailored interventions to address barriers and promote readiness for change
• Support youth in developing and achieving personal recovery goals
• Escort youth to appointments, support groups, and community-based services as needed
• Connect youth and families to educational, employment, and community resources
• Promote self-advocacy and ensure youth voices are central to care planning
• Facilitate sessions with youth and families to strengthen recovery support systems
• Participate in outreach efforts to increase awareness of available services

Administrative Support (20%)

• Maintain accurate records of peer activities and service interactions
• Document all client engagements in electronic systems in a timely manner

General Responsibilities (10%)

• Provide advocacy support for ACS and juvenile justice-involved youth
• Facilitate family-focused meetings
• Build relationships with community partners and service providers
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Ages 18–30 with lived experience related to social, emotional, behavioral, medical, or substance use challenges
• NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-P required
• Ability to leverage lived experience to support youth in recovery and wellness
• Familiarity with HCBS Behavioral Health peer service model preferred
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations in an addiction services setting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems

Preferred Skills

• Strong ability to engage and build rapport with youth
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Schedule

• Part-time, flexible hours
